What do you want to do before you die?

It’s the question that’s on everyone’s mind at one time or another, and it’s the question that “The Buried Life’s” Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie are well known for asking.

On Thursday, Nov. 15, MTV’s famous four spoke at McGarvey Commons to talk about their journey and to inspire Penn State students (as well as two students from St. Louis, Missouri, who traveled 14 hours for the event) to never give up.

The four guys got together in 2006 and created a bucket list. Made up of one hundred things they were determined to do before they died, the group set out on a two week journey in an old RV to conquer the list.

While crossing off as many crazy things as possible, they decided they should not only persevere to make their dreams come true, but help others to achieve theirs as well.

Number 53 on their list is “to make a TV show with your buddies.” Networks heard of Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie’s mission, and were immediately hooked. MTV got a hold of the boys and declared that they wanted to be involved with the foursome. Hesitant, the devoted group declared that they would only sign off on a television show if they had complete control over the production; they did not want a company changing their original view.

They had to pick something exceptionally epic off of their bucket list for the pilot, and proceeded with number six: crash the Playboy Mansion.

The plan was not as simple as putting the idea to paper. The group purchased a humongous cake with “Playboy” written on the side of it, a cake big enough for two people to fit inside of it. During a party at the mansion, two of the boys delivered the cake to the house while the other two hid inside of it. Surprisingly, the bouncer welcomed the gift, and as soon as the hollowed cake entered the notorious house, the duo was ready to party.

During the two seasons aired on MTV and throughout their overall journey, “The Buried Life” has totally altered the boys’ own lives as well as the lives of others. Determined to make a difference, the boys help people cross items off of their own bucket lists. The foursome have helped a father reunite with his son, pitched in to buy a man a car, and took children suffering with cancer to Toys"R”Us for a shopping spree.

Their stories are heart wrenching and inspirational, encouraging viewers to start their own bucket list or to help make a difference in another’s life.

When Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie concluded their chat at McGarvey, they asked for anyone willing to express their own bucket list dreams to step up to the microphone. Dreams ranged from selling out arenas to one trying to find her birth mother, but all were completely real. All were equally determined to cross off that number one item on their list.

So what do you want to do before you die? And what are you willing to do in order to accomplish it?
