Stationed in Youngstown, Ohio, this metal/melodic hardcore band creates their name with the basis of Christian values, strong messages, and stronger breakdowns. They Promised Escape is comprised of Shaun O’Neill on bass, Pierce Aron and Joe Fiedorczyk on guitar, Michael Mazzoli on the drums and Mason Edmunds with the vocals. Each has their own personality in the band and brings a different flavor, creating a new but easily palleted sound.

Seeing this band live is always an immense form of enterainment, and with each and every show they truly break their necks to please the audience on more levels than one. Whether it be brief and non-aggressive sermons before songs, that appeal to the spiritual listeners, or their gut churning riffing that punches your ear drums and demands your complete attention.

More than the approach to the music and the music itself, they literally damaged their bodies trying to bring you the best show. As a personal testimony, I saw them in southern Ohio and Pierce, their guitarist, cracked his skull open while jamming through their second or third song, and he finished the rest of the set as blood flood down his neck and forehead. It was truly metal.

Not only is this band developed on a stage, they also have a heavy-duty presence on record and deliver the same energy that they generate at their shows, all of which is put on display on their self-titled EP. Every song flows fairly well, in that each song has its own personality and difference deliverance. Rhythms that will force you to dance, but not the same way you would at the Cell Block, are driven by the guitarists, but the gas for this monster machine is Mr. Mazzoli on his frightful yellow drums.

He accents and enterprises the music with subtle and dynamic patterns, and he creates his own voice in the band. Adding to the pretty and monstrous vocals, Mason brings certain melodies that demand your voice to sing along in chorus with each tuneful section.

The EP is a racetrack for the crazy car-machine driven by the boys in They Promised Escape, and it gives off its wild but concentrated music in eager levels. Pick it up as soon as possible. They Promised Escape is full of good times, good tunes, and good dudes.Give them some respect and support. If the Christian basis isn’t your thing, allow their music to be a channel in which other personalities and worldly differences are held constant. Be about it.
