The Behrend Lions served up a slew of runs and strikeouts to a heap of opponents last week. The week started last Tuesday, as the Behrend Lions took on Pitt-Bradford in a doubleheader. They denied the Panthers of any runs, as the Behrend Lions won 3-0 and 1-0. In the first game, junior pitcher Ryan Jacobs fanned nine batters in 5.1 innings of work. Freshman Tommy Kocur had two runs batted in and sophomore Dante DeSantis doubled. Sophomore Chad Zurat got the save. In the second game, junior catcher Evan Bukowski’s run batted in proved to be the difference in a dual between junior Jay Condit and Pitt-Bradford’s Jim Iversen. Freshman Jory Okerlund got the save. Thursday, the Behrend Lions defeated Fredonia in non-conference action 8-5. For junior Matt Bittner, the lucky number was three: Bittner had three doubles and three runs batted in. Junior Ryan Kragnes pitched in with three runs scored and two stolen bases. The Behrend Lions had another doubleheader Saturday, this one against Penn State Altoona. The results mirrored the previous games: victory. DeSantis struck out eight in the first game, and senior Ryan Geibel added two runs batted in to guide the Behrend Lions to a 5-1 win. In the second game, Geibel had four runs batted in after hitting a grand slam. Kragnes swiped three bases during the game as well. The Behrend Lions won 7-1. Finally, on Monday, the team played Thiel at home. Plenty of position players chipped in, as Kragnes, Bittner and Geibel all had two runs batted in. On the mound, Okerlund picked up the win in relief. It was his second straight win after picking up the win in relief in the second game of the doubleheader against Penn State Altoona. The Behrend Lions have two doubleheaders this week: Wednesday against D’Youville and Saturday versus Pitt-Greensberg. All four games are at home. |
