Is it possible to add a feather to a swimming cap? The phrase “adding another feather in the cap” may not apply to anyone more than senior Anne Lawrence, whose list of accolades is highlighted by 2011 AMCC swimmer of the year. Lawrence was also named AMCC swimmer of the week after her captivating performance at the AMCC Championship. Lawrence won three individual events and had a hand in four winning relays, helping the women’s team snag their sixth consecutive AMCC Championship. “It was great being a part of another Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving AMCC victory. It was so much fun to watch everyone swim fast,” Lawrence said. “I’m so glad I got to finish my Behrend swimming career with a sixth consecutive AMCC championship.” The team finished with a total of 287 points, beating second-place Franciscan by 137 points. Also shining for the swimmers were YEAR MaryEllen Spooner and YEAR Julie Cook. Spooner set the AMCC open, AMCC meet and team record in the 200 backstroke during the preliminaries with a time of 2:13.52 before breaking the records again in the finals with a time of 2:11.30. Cook broke records in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.82. YEAR Meghan Wade won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Wade had a score of 367.95 for the one-meter event and a score of 336.10 in the three-meter event. Other strong performers for the swimming and diving team included YEAR Katie Siffrinn, YEAR Hilary MacManus and YEAR Jesse Dunleavy. Siffrinn took second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.93, finishing just behind Spooner. MacManus came in second in the 100 free with a time of 56.67 and Dunleavy took second in the 1650 free. |
